Color Divine Painting Contractors FAQ

It all depends on the scope: the area size – one room, two rooms, or if you want the whole apartment painted, repair work, whether there’s one coat or two coats, and if there are color changes. All of these factors affect the pricing. An average one-bedroom apartment in New York is around 600-700 square feet—painting all walls and ceilings could start at around $1,500.

If we were looking at painting just a room, that could start at around $700, which includes paint and labor. And for an apartment, approximately $1500.

There are many factors that determine the price of an exterior paint job: railings, doors, the face of the house, the trim, fences, awnings, and the height of the structure — whether it’s two stories, three stories, etc. Also, if the surface is concrete, brick, or wood, etc.

Absolutely. When we come and look at the job, we evaluate the surface, the work, and the color, and that’s the best way to give it an accurate price. So free estimates!

Yes, I’m licensed as a general contractor, which covers painting, and we are fully insured, as we have large projects going on around the city right now. We’re fully insured and licensed for schools, city agencies, and everything else to perform work beyond painting.

The brands we normally use are Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Behr, and it’s also all up to the customer’s preference.

The same paints for exterior paint jobs. Popular paint brands are Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Behr Paint from Home Depot.

One brand is Sherwin-Williams, which has a cabinet paint with a satin or pearl finish. It’s more durable, more reliable. There is also a cabinet paint by Benjamin Moore that we endorse. The key to cabinet painting is more about the method, and how it is applied — usually, we spray paint it.

Absolutely. At any given time, we are working on a commercial painting project.

Cover all furniture, move furniture if necessary, cover the floors, plaster any cracks and distressed areas. If there’s loose debris, we scrape, prime, then prep.

Mud or plaster may be applied in 2 or 3 coats, then sanded in between, polished, and primed. All holes get filled; We caulk all areas in need.

It’s stated on the cans that the optimal temperature is above 40 degrees, but these are not hard-and-fast rules. The best seasons are usually around the start of spring, through the summer, and fall—If it’s not raining or snowing. Even in the wintertime, if the temperatures are warm enough or it’s a sunny day without rain or snow, it’s fine.

Yes. We have over 20 years of experience in painting and can offer suggestions for paint, colors, and patterns. Based on our knowledge and the trim of the client’s house, we can make color suggestions.

Keep in mind your scope, budget, and target. I would recommend that if you’re spending a minimum, have enough work on hand, because if you just want to call us to paint a door, that’s going to be a minimum of about $500.

If you want to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth, you could add 1 or 2 more of those and then budget for the price. Make sure the work scope is large enough for one day’s work.

Yes, they’re very safe now. When we paint in schools, nursing homes, labs, and similar areas with sensitive concerns, we use eco-friendly paints, and the paint product data sheets are available. If you’re allergic, have babies or pets in the home, we use the recommended eco-friendly paints. Most paints nowadays are eco-friendly.

Eco-friendly paints dry in between 1 and 4 hours, depending on the air and moisture. You can typically return home and resume regular activities after 1 hour.

Yes, if you have a small painting job and want to extend it, or have an ongoing project, we can offer a plan.

We can provide a maintenance service. For example, in a business or a building, if there’s a lot of traffic in the hallways, I can come back and just do maintenance work, and then we could offer those prices as well. We could provide maintenance every couple of months at 30% or 40% discounts.

If we did a job that cost you $1,000, we could come back in a couple of months for maintenance at half the price. Because we’re not focusing on everything else, or changing colors.

Maintenance work – if you do a paint job every 2 years, it’s easy maintenance. The price would factor in if you’re changing colors or doing additional work.

If someone hasn’t had a paint job in 20 or 30 years, the work is more intense. There’s more prepping, colorwork, and cleaning. Those factors change the pricing.
